The Tool and Die Maker I work from blueprints and sketches to create or modify prototypes, tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and molds. Assists with the building and repairs of custom machine shop tools using machining equipment and measuring instruments. Tool and Die Maker I’s operate lathes, grinders, milling, and boring machines to produce tools. Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures, regulations, and processes and identifies opportunities for improvement. 

Ability to select, align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and material on machines such as grinders, mills lathes and shapers. Read blueprints, sketches, drawings to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, the sequence of operations and setup requirements. 

Visualize finished products and communicate potential design errors or issues. Dismantle defective tooling. Diagnose repair needs to be repaired, install new or rebuilt parts. Reassemble, machines via trial run to verify the accuracy of machine settings.  
Must be able to lift heavy objects (Up to 50 lbs.), work well with others, maintain a positive attitude, and can pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
